Named for Gassy Jack Deighton who opened a harbour front saloon in 1867. Gastown was designated an historic district in 1971. Today lofts, apartments, restaurants, galleries, cafes, antique shops and high end clothing boutiques occupy the heritage buildings that line the cobblestone streets in the heart of Vancouver.
